Garden uses sheep to control weeds
Don’t be surprised if you see a sheep munching on weeds at the Huntington Beach Community Garden. The garden held a trial run on July 19 with Easy’s Place, a sheep breeding and herding company based in Huntington Beach. Jerome M. Stewart, head of Easy’s Place, brought 6 sheep – a number based on the gardens size – to graze on the weeds for a nominal fee.
The garden got the idea to use the sheep to cut down on unwanted growth from other businesses who have long used the animals for weed control. Garden officials will decide at their next meeting how to proceed with using the sheep.
